About NeighborHouse of Hillsborough and our History
Neighbor House of Hillsborough was formed as a 501 ( c ) (3). Faith based public charity in 2005 to address the needs of the homeless population in Northern Orange County, NC. By working with congregations, local governments, and other social organizations, Neighbor House of Hillsborough aims to help eliminate some of the socioeconomic woes of the homeless and indigent people in Northern Orange County, North Carolina. Neighbor House operates through numerous in-kind contributions and donated professional services of people in the Hillsborough area. The use of volunteers and access to human resources through the infrastructure of participating churches will keep our overhead at a minimum allowing most of our resources to go for programs and services. Neighbor House helps supplement the diets of low-income citizens in northern Orange County, NC through its program called “Food for All”, (a direct -service program), by providing hot nutritious meals four days a week through a mobile meals ministry at no cost to recipients. The immediate short -term goal of Neighbor House is to host a soup kitchen in Hillsborough for the “Food for All” program so neighbors can be treated with dignity and eat in a warm inviting environment. Long-term goal for Neighbor House is to provide a place for temporary emergency shelter for citizens who find themselves in distressed situations. |
