Lydia Fuse Mason - Board Treasurer

Lydia Fuse Mason was born in Georgia but grew up in Fayetteville, NC. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting.  Her accounting career started in Texas in 1982 and she holds a State of Texas CPA license.  After six years in the Washington, DC area, Lydia returned to Chapel Hill to marry John Mason and his company “The Furniture Doctor”.  

Leaving the DC area in 1993, it was my desire to “give back” to society because my life had been so blessed.  I worked with United Way of Orange County before and during the merger to Triangle United Way.  In 1995, I found my other love and joined the Healthcare Movement at Piedmont Health Services, Inc.  Piedmont is here to offer affordable quality primary and preventive healthcare to everyone in our community.  For Piedmont, Healthcare includes a total package --- Medical, Dental, Pharmaceutical, Nutrition, and Social Work. With my work in Corporate America and my love of Piedmont’s mission, it all made sense to me.  I can use my talent to be a blessing to the patients by helping Piedmont stays a viable organization for our patients...for society.

Motivated by her idea that she should always be a blessing, Lydia has worked in the community as Treasurer for an Elementary School PTA, the PTA Thrift Shop Board, the Neighbor House of Hillsborough Board, the NCCHC Board and various political campaigns.  Lydia volunteers with the Angel Food Ministry.  She has been a resource for several small businesses in the area.  Although her husband passed in 2002, Lydia continues to run his furniture restoration business because the community also needs it.  

Lydia has a 12 year-old daughter, Lynette, who attends Smith Middle School and joins her volunteering.  She and her daughter enjoy the movies, traveling, and basketball.
